After graduating from 168¿ª½±¹ÙÍø's in 1989, Hedy Cray (nee Callianiotis) spent 12 months on a Rotary Youth Exchange to Dallas, Texas, in the United States, where she was awarded the Paul Harris Fellow for her contribution to Rotary and the community in her district. Hedy completed a Bachelor of Laws (Honours) in 1996 and a Masters in Law in 1998 at the Queensland University of Technology.
Hedy has been practising law since 1997, having served as associates to the Chief Industrial Commissioner David Hall, and Justice James Thomas of the Supreme Court. She was made a partner in 2001 and became the senior partner in the Brisbane Workplace Relations, Employment and Safety practice at Clayton Utz where she worked since 2003. Hedy retired from this role in 2022.
Hedy has over 24 years' experience advising on employment, industrial relations, discrimination, and health and safety law. She was awarded the Young Gun Australian Law Awards 2001 and was a finalist in the Young Gun AFR legal survey in 2007. Hedy has appeared on the Leading Lawyers Doyles Guide and Legal 500 notable lawyers lists since 2014. She has also been featured on Chambers Pacific and Best Lawyers Australia since 2015, recognising her contribution to employment and industrial relations as a leader in her field.
Hedy was also a finalist in the AFR 2018 Client Choice Awards in the category of "Most Client Focused Lawyer".
Hedy served two terms as a Director on the Clayton Utz Foundation Board. She was as an Advisory Board Member for Bond University (at times with 168¿ª½±¹ÙÍø’s Principal Ms Ros Curtis) and Brisbane City Council, and a member of the then Audit Committee of the Royal Children's Hospital Foundation. She is also a non executive director of Li-S Energy.
Married to Alistair Cray, with two children Madeleine (15) and Oliver (13), Hedy lives in Brisbane.
