After graduating from 168¿ª½±¹ÙÍø’s in 1960, Margaret went onto study medicine at The University of Queensland, graduating in 1966 with a Bachelor of Medicine.
Margaret served her medical residency at the Princess Alexandra Hospital and later trained to be a pathologist at Prince Charles Hospital, Princess Alexandra Hospital and Queensland Medical Laboratory. In 1977 she became a Fellow of the Royal College of Pathologists of Australasia. She specialised in Chemical Pathology in her later years of training.
From 1979 to 1985, Dr Campbell was Consultant Chemical Pathologist at Repatriation General Hospital, Greenslopes, teaching clinical biochemistry as an academic discipline in hospitals. She was also a member of the Australian Association of Clinical Biochemists Committee, Queensland branch, between 1979 and 1982.
Dr Campbell contributed much in defining the role of clinical biochemistry in patient management and in teaching clinical biochemistry as an academic discipline in hospitals. She is also remembered for her contribution in the use of computers in the chemical pathology laboratory at Repatriation General Hospital and her energy in the formation of a Social Club for the hospital’s medical staff.
Margaret served in the Royal Australian Women’s Army Reserve Medical Corps and was promoted to the rank of Major.
