Tanya Weingarth has worked in the television media industry for 17 years, working as both a reporter and producer. She is currently a senior producer with A Current Affair, based in its Brisbane bureau.
After graduating university, Tanya began her career as a young sports reporter cutting her teeth in regional television throughout Queensland, before making the move to Sydney where she eventually found herself in one of the most dynamic newsrooms in the industry, Nine News Sydney. “There I was a senior producer working on Nine's flagship 6pm news bulletin where breaking news and tight deadlines are all in a day's work,” said Tanya.
After three years with Nine News and following the arrival of her first child, Tanya transferred back to her home city of Brisbane to take up her current position with A Current Affair. Her role as a senior producer involves putting together the show's stories from pitching ideas to lining up and conducting interviews and, at times, writing scripts.
Of her 168¿ª½±¹ÙÍø’s education, Tanya said: “I started at 168¿ª½±¹ÙÍø's in 1995. I'll never forget my first day as I proudly pulled on my panama hat and boarded a train from Burpengary. Little did I know I was embarking on an incredible six-year journey that would help shape the woman I am today. The first thing I noticed when I walked through the gates was the amazing school spirit. Everyone was proud to be a "Maggies" girl, and I knew I would be too.”
During her time at 168¿ª½±¹ÙÍø's, Tanya represented the school in swimming, netball, softball, cross country and athletics, giving her all to the brown, white and blue. In Year 11, she was selected to represent Australia in surf lifesaving. Tanya was Bede House Captain in her final year at 168¿ª½±¹ÙÍø’s and has several sporting achievements under her belt including Australian Surf Life Saving representative (1999), Kellogg's Nutri-Grain Ironwoman, Australian Champion: Open Taplin Relay and Under 19 Surf Teams (2002) and Runner-up Queensland Champion: Open Ironwoman (2003).
Tanya reflected: “Not only did 168¿ª½±¹ÙÍø's foster my love of sport, it also encouraged my love of writing – both would eventually lead me down the path of a career in journalism.”
