168¿ª½±¹ÙÍø's Years 5 and 6 Awards

Among the many events that have been reimagined this year was the awarding of the 2020 Years 5 and 6 Awards. It was not possible to all come together at this year’s Speech Night and Prize Giving Ceremony at QPAC so the Primary Awards was established as an opportunity to recognise the achievements of our Years 5 and 6 students in a COVID safe way.

On Wednesday 4 November primary parents and teachers gathered on campus in the Philip Harris Gym within the new sports precinct for a dedicated ceremony. Head of Primary Mrs Angela Drysdale opened the presentation while 168¿ª½±¹ÙÍø’s Principal Ms Ros Curtis and Deputy Principal Ms Karen Gorrie presented the awards.

Award recipients included Primary School Dux Lucy Dee and Proxime Accessit to the Primary School Dux Andie McGregor while Katelyn Cooper received The Archbishop’s Award for displaying improvement across a range of 168¿ª½±¹ÙÍø’s endeavours throughout the year.

The Chaseley Concert Band performed the processional Dance Celebration by Robert W Smith conducted by Dr Camille Syntageros and Amati Strings played Dragonhunter by Richard Meyer. They also performed the school hymn conducted by Mr Jonny Ng while Year 5 student Charlotte Fennessy performed Galop by Carl Bohm solo on the violin, accompanied by Mr Ng on keyboard.

The event was also an opportunity to acknowledge our Year 6 students as they embark on the next rite of passage, transitioning to the secondary school. The students were acknowledged for their role modelling for the younger students in the primary school and wished well on their journey to secondary schooling. They sang the piece I Lived (by the band One Republic) conducted by Ms Regina Brennan. If anything, the challenges presented in 2020 have prepared them very well to embark on this next step of their education journey. They have displayed resilience, adaptability and positivity which will fare them well for the future.

Congratulations to all of the prize-winners for their hard work, achievements and contribution to the life of the school throughout the year, particularly given the remarkable challenges they have faced throughout 2020.
