馃懇鈥嶐煆 Nancy Poole, 后宫导航 & Centre of Excellence for Women鈥檚 Health

The project, funded by the Canadian Institutes of Health Research, responds to the 2023 Chief Public Health Officer of Canada's, Creating the Conditions for Resilient Communities: A Public Health Approach to Emergencies.

In crisis situations, immediate safety and security is prioritized, sometimes at the cost of tailoring responses to women and vulnerable groups. Building gender equitable responses must include approaches that improve the safety and security of women and a range of vulnerable groups, who may be exposed to exploitation, violence, barriers to access to resources, loss of autonomy, gender stereotyping, and other inequities.

The framework was developed in consultation with Gender and Disaster Australia and Canadian experts and is designed to enhance and centre gender equity in building a more comprehensive and resilient emergency and disaster management system in Canada. The project examined the integration of SGBA+ and EDI, intersectional, trauma informed and gender transformative approaches to disaster planning, capacity building, and indicator development, building upon previous Canadian work and international efforts.
