In the secondary school, the Enviro Committee consists of a group of environmentally enthusiastic students in Years 10 to 12. Each member of the Enviro Committee identifies with a responsibility to be an environmentally aware citizen of our school and broader community. This is a great place for like-minded people to gather, raise issues, and devise solutions to promote sustainable living.
Members of the committee have a shared goal of promoting a more environmentally friendly culture within the school.
Over the past two years, the Enviro Committee has worked to reduce 168¿ª½±¹ÙÍø’s contribution to landfill, through the promotion of sustainable waste practices and by encouraging all 168¿ª½±¹ÙÍø’s students and staff to bring their own cup at Ms Café. Paper recycling bins have been installed in classrooms and recycling bins have been installed across the school campus fitted with posters detailing how to separate rubbish into general waste and Containers for Change bins.
The club was recently accepted to be part of the Brisbane City Council's Student Environmental Leadership Network (SELN) which provides an opportunity for two club members to represent 168¿ª½±¹ÙÍø's within the wider Brisbane community. Through this program, 168¿ª½±¹ÙÍø's representatives attend four meetings per year to network with students from other schools, discussing environmental issues and sharing ideas for proactive measures that can be installed at the school.
